Creamy, spicy, and sweet, this Bang Bang sauce recipe hits all the right notes, and with Greek yogurt stirred in the mix! A rich and tangy flavor with benefits. So go ahead and drizzle a little extra over your spicy shrimp tacos or your rice bowl with salmon.

You’re probably familiar with this coveted condiment, which surfaced in the early 2000s at Bonefish Grill. It was a dipping sauce for their popular Bang Bang Shrimp, and we’ve been collectively obsessed ever since.

This Bang Bang sauce recipe sets itself apart by adding Greek yogurt. Don’t worry, I’ve kept mayo in the mix to maintain that thick, zesty, slightly sweet flavor. Greek yogurt just lowers the fat content, adds extra nutrients, and adds a punch of protein. That way, you can drizzle extra over my Bang Bang salmon bowls or these grilled Mahi-Mahi fish tacos.

Ingredient Overview

A quick look at the essentials before we dive into the recipe card:

  • Plain Greek Yogurt—the base of this Bang Bang sauce. It keeps the integrity of the smooth, tangy Bang Bang sauce as we know it, while adding some protein and other benefits.
  • Mayonnaise—it needs to be there. I tried this recipe without it, and it just seemed to be missing a little something. All you need is two tablespoons to maintain that richness and tang.
  • Sweet Chili Sauce—a crucial ingredient, but high in sugar. I opt for a sugar-free variety. I like G Hughes sweet Thai chili sauce because it isn’t sweetened with stevia, which always seems to give off that weird stevia taste. It’s sweetened with sucralose, which has its critics, but is totally fine in small quantities.
  • Sriracha—this sets the tone for the heat. You can skip it if you prefer a mild sauce, or add extra if you like it really spicy. You have total control over the spice level here!

Substitutions & Variations

  • Dairy-Free Option: Use a plant-based Greek-style yogurt made from almond, soy, cashew, or coconut.
  • Low-Carb Variation: Sweet Thai chili sauces tend to be high in carbs due to their high sugar content, so reach for a sugar-free sauce. G Hughes is sugar-free and low-carb.
  • Kid-Friendly Mild Version: Omit the Sriracha entirely.

Storage Tips

You can keep homemade Bang Bang sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week—or longer! Use your sniffer. I like using these little glass containers, but if you have some small canning jars kicking around, those work great.
