Easy Air Fryer Pizza
Easy and delicious, this air fryer pizza recipe is perfect for making personal pizzas; they cook in less than 10 minutes!
The Air Fryer Can Do Many Things, and Making Bomb Personal Pizzas Is One of Them.
It started with us cooking pita pizzas in the air fryer (which are incredibly convenient and awesome, by the way). The air fryer does a great job at crisping up pepperoni, melting cheese to perfection, and bringing the perfect golden hue to your crust. But since we have a go-to pizza dough recipe in this house, it made sense to divy up the dough and try making personal pizzas in the air fryer. I’m happy to say it worked beautifully! So, I’m going to share this goodness with you.
Ingredients for Air Fryer Pizza.
Pizza toppings are personal, so I’ll list the basics here and you can get creative with the rest. As far as the base goes, there are several options. The easiest and most unfussy way to enjoy personal pizzas is by dressing up a pita or naan. But I wanted to experiment with my trusty homemade dough recipe, and sure enough, with a few tricks, it worked out wonderfully. You could also try this with your own dough recipe.
Here’s what you’ll need for the pizzas:
- 16 oz ball of pizza dough, divided into two or three balls (you can stretch this recipe to make three personal pizzas if you want to, they’ll just be a bit thinner)
- Pizza sauce
- Olive oil
- Garlic salt (optional)
- Italian herbs (optional)
- Shredded Italian blend or mozzarella, or small mozzarella balls
- Any other toppings you love adding to your pizza
How to Make Air Fryer Pizza.
The process to make air fryer pizza is really simple, but there are some important little tricks to know about.
Preparing the dough (If you’re using pita or naan, skip to assembling the pizza):
- Preheat the air fryer to 400º F.
- Sprinkle some flour over a clean flat surface and divide your dough ball into 2 or 3 balls, depending on how many personal pizzas you want to make. One by one, work the dough out into round pizzas that are just big enough to fit into the air fryer basket.
- Spray the bottom of the air fryer basket with a bit of olive oil or non-stick spray.
- Brush the top of the crust with a bit of olive oil, and sprinkle some garlic salt and Italian herbs over the outer crust of the pie for flavored crust. (This is optional, but we definitely recommend it!)
- Using a fork, gently poke holes in the center of the dough (avoiding the outer crust area). This will keep the middle of the dough from ballooning.
- Carefully transfer the dough to the air fryer basket. You can use a spatula for support underneath the pizza if need be.
- Cook the dough in the air fryer for 3 minutes. Pre-cooking the shell beforehand will help you attain a nice golden crust in the end without overcooking the cheese and other toppings.
Assembling the pizza:
- After 3 minutes, open up the air fryer and carefully dress your pizza—you can keep it in the air fryer while you do this, for efficiency. (If using pita or naan, just place it in the air fryer basket since it’s already been prebaked).
- Once you’ve topped your pizza with everything you want, close your air fryer and cook the pizza for 5 minutes. Times may vary with different air fryers, but this is the perfect timing for the air fryer I use.
NOTE: The fan in an air fryer is strong and can blow lightweight toppings around. See below for tips and tricks on how to manage this.
Equipment You’ll Need:
- Air Fryer
- Sharp knife
- Cutting Board
- Cheese grater
- Pizza sauce ladle
- Pastry brush
- Pizza scissors (optional, but these are awesome!)
Recipe Tips + Tricks:
- The fan in an air fryer is strong and can blow lightweight toppings around. To prevent your toppings from blowing all over, place a dehydrating basket over the pizza if you have one. (My model came with them.) You could also secure pepperoni with toothpicks.
- When using fresh dough, be sure to pre-cook the dough in the air fryer for 3 minutes prior to adding sauce and other toppings; the dough needs more time to cook than the toppings do.
- Use a fork to poke small holes in the center of the dough so that the dough doesn’t balloon in the air fryer. If the dough still balloons a bit when you open the air fryer, you can flatten it down using a spatula before topping your pizza.
- To flavor the crust, brush the top of the pizza with olive oil and sprinkle garlic salt and/or Italian herbs over the outer crust area.
- If you want to freeze any dough balls you aren’t using at the time of cooking, you can freeze them for 3-4 months, then thaw them overnight before you plan to use them.
