Peppadew pizza in round cast iron pan.

Sweet and peppery smothered with more sweet and peppery.

Peppadew peppers are the perfect pizza topping when you want to zhuzh up your pie. They’re sweet with a mild kick, and when you pair them with crispy cup-and-char pepperoni, cracked black pepper, and a drizzle of thick and sticky honey, it’s a flippin’ delicacy. Honey isn’t exactly what you’d consider a conventional pizza topping, but believe me when I say it works. Especially with the zip of the cracked black pepper. Every bit of this pie offer sweet, salty peppery goodness.

Here’s the list of ingredients:

  • A ball of fresh pizza dough
  • Pizza sauce
  • Mozzarella or shredded Italian blend of cheese
  • Peppadew peppers
  • Pepperoni (we love using cup-and-char)
  • Honey
  • Cracked black pepper

The gist on making Peppadew Pizza with Honey and Cracked Pepper.

If you’ve got a trusted pizza dough you work with, go with that. Or you can whip up my quick and easy pizza dough which only take an hour to rise. When your dough is ready to be worked, preheat the oven to its highest temperature—most conventional ovens will go up to 550º F. Lightly grease your pizza pan and carefully work your dough out onto it, forming a crust at the edges. Evenly distribute the sauce over the center of the pizza, followed by an even distribution of the cheese. Finally, dot the pizza with the pepperoni and peppadew peppers. Place the pizza in the oven and cook for 15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling. Remove the pizza from the oven and let it sit for about 10 minutes to cool. Drizzle the honey over the pizza, and then crack black pepper over it. Slice into it and enjoy!

And if you’re looking for the perfect side salad for pizza, this is it.

Recipe tips + tricks.

  1. Flavor your crust! Before putting the pizza in the oven, brush a light coating of olive oil along the crust after topping your pizza. Then, sprinkle a bit of garlic salt and/or Italian seasoning over the crust.
  2. If you can’t find cup-and-char pepperoni (sadly, they can be tricky to scope out), regular pepperoni is totally fine.
  3. This recipe also makes for a great vegetarian pizza if you omit the pepperoni. There’s still a lot of flavor! You could always add green olives if you want that extra saltiness pepperoni provides.
