This is the most delicious sangria! I made it for Thanksgiving and it was a total hit. It went so fast. I’ll have to remember to make more next year!!

I’ve always liked a festive cocktail that doesn’t ask much of me. Bitters and fancy liqueurs aren’t really my language, and I’ve made peace with that. Sangria fills the gap nicely: pour in some wine, add booze and juice, and you’re done. This caramel apple cider sangria brings together Garnacha, apple cider, brandy, and caramel vodka. Fall in a pitcher, no mixology degree required. The wine’s dryness keeps the caramel vodka and apple cider from tipping into overly sweet territory, so the whole thing stays well balanced.

Once you’ve fallen in love with this fall drink, you can move on to my ultra-cozy mulled wine with caramel vodka. It’s a hug in a mug! And this Christmas sangria? Peak festive.

A Few Good Reasons to Make This

  • Big batch, minimal effort: one pitcher serves a crowd with barely any hands-on time.
  • Tastes like fall: all the caramel apple flavor of the season.
  • Make-ahead friendly: it actually improves after sitting, so it’s perfect for prepping before guests arrive.
  • A showstopper for the table: the deep red color and fall garnishes make it as pretty as it is easy.
  • Easily doubled for a crowd: scales up effortlessly for parties or potlucks.

Tips From My Kitchen

Refrigerate the sangria at least an hour before serving. It’s much better when chilled. You can make it up to a whole day in advance. If you need to serve it right away, add a few cups of ice to the pitcher to chill it quickly.

Ingredients at a Glance

A quick look at some of the essentials before we dive into the recipe:

  • Red wine: go with something fruity and chill-friendly like Garnacha (aka Grenache) or Tempranillo—low tannins, no bitterness, just good vibes. Spanish blends and Pinot Noir work too.
  • Apple cider: it’s the key to really bringing fall to your glass with this sangria.
  • Brandy: you can even be a little extra and get an apple brandy to stay on theme.
  • Caramel vodka: my go-to is Smirnoff’s Caramel Kiss vodka. Pinnacle vodka has a salted caramel vodka that would also work.
  • Garnishes: Apple slices and cinnamon sticks, naturally.

How to Make Caramel Apple Cider Sangria

Overhead shot of pitcher full of juice and apples with red wine being poured into it.

Step 1: Prep and Throw In Your Aromatics.

Cut up your apples and place them into a large pitcher along with the cinnamon and some cinnamon sticks.

Step 2: Add the Base Liquids.

Pour in the caramel vodka, apple cider, and brandy, then stir well.

Step 3: Pour In the Wine

Pour the entire bottle of wine into the pitcher. Give everything another good stir, then pop it in the fridge until ready to serve.

Make It Your Own…

  • Make it a white sangria: use a dry white like Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc. Sangria doesn’t need to be fancy, just drinkable!
  • No brandy? No problem: Use more of the caramel vodka.
  • Like it really sweet? You can add a sweetener, like a few tablespoons of simple syrup or even maple syrup, since we’re doing fall.
  • Add some star anise in there with your cinnamon sticks. They add a nice cozy flavor and look pretty floating around in a glass.

  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1 cup caramel-flavored vodka
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 1 Granny Smith apple, thinly sliced or cubed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 cinnamon sticks

Instructions

  • Prep and Throw In Your Aromatics: Cut up your apples and place them into a large pitcher along with the cinnamon and some cinnamon sticks.
  • Add the Base Liquids: Pour in the caramel vodka, apple cider, and brandy, then stir well.
  • Pour In the Wine: Pour the entire bottle of wine into the pitcher. Give everything another good stir, then pop it in the fridge until ready to serve. It will las in the fridge for about 2 days.

Notes

Let the sangria chill for at least an hour before serving. Cold sangria just hits better. You can make it a day ahead, which is ideal. In a rush? Toss in a few big handfuls of ice.
