I want to introduce you to my favorite smoothie in the whole wide world: my Peanut Butter Banana Spinach Smoothie. It sounds pretty generic, I know. But I’ve been happily drinking this blend for years and no other fusion of flavors has been able to tear me away from it.

In the third trimester of my pregnancy, the milkshake craving reared its delicious ugly head. Pretty dangerous when your town has countless burger joints that offer gargantuan shakes spun with cookies and syrups. (America!) To curb these cravings, I turned to this smoothie. The cold milky texture, the richness of peanut butter and banana, and the natural sweetness totally did the trick. Which is great! Because that left me with room for cookies ;) (I have to pick and choose my sweet tooth battles.)

So, what’s all in this smoothie?

The base of it is a few handfuls of baby spinach, half of a large banana, a tablespoon of natural peanut butter, and your choice of natural unrefined sweetener. The sweetener can be honey, maple syrup, dates, whatever you like! I also add a sprinkle of chia seeds and flaxseed meal in there for extra nutritional punch. 

Away from the table…

Phasing out plastic! Another brewery has stepped up its game and unveiled packaging that can be eaten by sea turtles. For years I’ve been obsessively (annoyingly?) reminding folks to cut up their plastic 6-pack rings to eliminate choking hazards for marine life. In a world that needs a whole lot less plastic, this kind of change is really promising.

Cruelty-free self-care! Last year, my goal was to go cruelty-free in our home wherever we could—with makeup, household cleaners, and toiletries. One brand of cruelty-free self-care products that I keep going back to is Raw Sugar. They’re made in SoCal, and their products and packaging are sustainable.   • 2-3 handfuls of baby spinach
  • 1 banana
  • 1 TBSP natural peanut butter (or your favorite nut butter)
  • 1 cup milk (I like using oat milk or nut milks)
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • 1 tsp ground flaxmeal
  • 1-2 tsp unrefined sweetener (raw honey, pure maple syrup, etc)


  • Place all of the ingredients in a high-powered blender and blend until smooth. Serve/drink immediately.
