Greek Yogurt Lime Crema Recipe

This Greek yogurt lime crema is one of those sauces I keep in constant rotation. It's bright and tangy, with just enough cooling effect to tame anything spiced, whether that's tacos, a grain bowl, or a pan of roasted vegetables. Swapping in Greek yogurt gives you a lighter take on the classic, plus a nice bonus of protein you wouldn't get from the traditional version.

Course: Condiment
Cuisine: Mexican, Mexican-inspired
Servings: 1 cup (approx)

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • Juice of 1/2 lime, more to taste
  • Zest of one lime
  • 1 small clove of garlic, grated or finely minced
  • Pinch of sea salt, to taste
  • 1-2 tablespoons of water, for thinning to your liking

Instructions

  • Place the Greek yogurt into a small mixing bowl. Stir in the lime juice, zest, grated garlic, and salt. Keep stirring until all of the ingredients are well incorporated.
  • To thin the sauce, stir in 1 tablespoon of warm water. Keep doing this until you reach the consistency you're looking for, but remember to add water bit by bit so you don't accidentally end up with a super runny crema.

Notes

Storage
3-4 days in the fridge if using fresh garlic, and 5-7 days if using garlic powder.
Start with 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder and adjust to taste.
