I love everything about the holidays: the sparkling lights, the cheerful music, the spiked mulled ciders, and the mess of indulgent foods I get to jam into my mouth.

But yeah, sometimes I bite off more than I can chew. (Literally and theoretically.)

I promised myself that I’d keep entertaining simple this year, but while brainstorming, my daringly creative side kept poking me with ambitious ideas.

So, I made it my mission to come up with something that was elegant, effortless, and crave-worthy all while being on the healthy side.

Like I said, I bite off more than I can chew.

But partnering up with Simply Avocado made this an easy and delicious feat.

Sesame Soy Smoked Salmon Crostini | Killing Thyme

Sesame Soy Smoked Salmon Crostini | Killing Thyme

Simply Avocado = great tasting avocado year-round.

Simply Avocado is a brand-spankin’ new line of pure, wholesome avocado dips and spreads from the masterminds behind Wholly Guacamole. They’re made up of real hand-scooped Hass avocados and just four (or less) added ingredients.

Ripe and ready-to-eat, this good stuff lets us mow down on fresh avocado year-round; in my world, that’s a huge win.

Sesame Soy Smoked Salmon Crostini

While trying to come up with a healthy show-stopping appetizer for the holidays, I brainstormed snacks I felt I could eat my weight in and never grow tired of.

  • Sushi
  • Smoked salmon
  • Decked out crostini
  • Guacamole

Suddenly, mid-list, I realized that these faves could easily be smashed into one incredible appy.

These bad boys are lightly toasted, slathered with Simply Avocado’s creamy Sea Salt dip and spread, then topped with crunchy cucumber and smoked salmon. Though that combination is fab on its own, these bites truly aren’t complete without a brush of sesame oil and soy sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 fresh baguette, sliced diagonally into 16 1/2-inch thick slices
  • 2 8 oz packages of Simply Avocado Sea Salt Dip and Spread
  • 1/2 cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 6 oz smoked salmon, thinly sliced to make it easy on yourself, look for already thinly sliced smoked salmon
  • 2 TBSP soy sauce
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • black and white sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Carefully slice the baguette diagonally into about 16 1/2-inch thick slices. Place them on a baking sheet and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until slightly toasted. Don't over toast them, or they will become hard.
  • In the meantime, thoroughly mix the soy sauce and sesame oil in a small bowl.
  • Once the baguette slices are toasted, remove from the oven and allow to cool for a minute or two. Once cooled, spread a heaping teaspoon's worth of the avocado dip over each baguette slice. Place a slice of cucumber on each baguette, then fold over a slice of smoked salmon. Generously brush the cucumber and salmon on each baguette with the sesame and soy mix.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds and serve.

Notes

You can make these a few hours in advance; keep them in the fridge with foil tented over top.
