If any friend of mine is looking at these photos, they’re probably pinching their eyes or squeezing their temples in a fit of hangover flashbacks. This glorious cocktail has become *the* summer drink in our household and, needless to say, people like to drink a lot of them. Or maybe I’m just super eager to top their glasses off so I can make sure they’re on my level. Whatever the case…

Every season seems to have it’s bev. Fall has us all cozied up with mulled wine and spiked ciders; in winter, we curl up with those dangerous bourbonated hot toddies; spring inspires us to revitalize and make use of floral notes (remember my Spiked Hibiscus Iced Tea?); and summer has us quenching our thirst with refreshing mixes, like this effervescent Blueberry Lemon Vodka Fizz.

Blueberry Lemon Vodka Fizz | Killing Thyme

This blueberry lemon vodka fizz was invented on a whim

I mean, maybe I didn’t actually invent this drink, but…

The basis of this gem was introduced to me as a Vodka Club, which was a simple blend of club soda, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and regular ol’ vodka.

But this past spring, after creating my Spiked Hibiscus Iced Tea, I was left with a large bottle of blueberry-flavored vodka in my booze cabinet.

Oh, the travesty.

I kept excitedly opening the bottle to sniff it and shove it in my husband’s face saying, “Doesn’t this smell like blueberry muffins? Doesn’t this vodka smell like summer mornings?” (I don’t drink vodka in the morning, for the record. I was alluding to the muffins. I swear it.)

So, one evening while making vodka clubs for friends, my inner mixologist (whom I didn’t even know existed) whispered, “use the blueberry vodka.”

And then a monster was created.

It’s no secret that blueberries and lemons get along swimmingly; add to that the fact that this concoction is cooling, exhilarating, and fizzy, and you’ve got yourself a blend that was made for scorching summer days.

One of my fave things about this mix is that it isn’t sweet. I mean, you could add simple syrup if you wanted to, but if you’re like me and take a hard pass on diabetic coma-inducing drinks, stick with this recipe as is.

Switch things up with raspberries and limes

After coming up with this drink, I decided that I needed to try another blend. I swapped the blueberry vodka for raspberry vodka and the lemon juice for lime juice — and it was ah-mazing.

Since this formula of drink is so simple, it’s easy to get creative. Swap in a different fruity vodka and a different citrus fruit and see what you can come up with. If you do, definitely let me know in the comments!
